Honolulu places 10th on list of secure U.S. cities

Advertiser Staff

Honolulu placed 10th among large metropolitan areas in an insurance company's ranking of the most secure places to live.

The list attempts to identify the best cities to live by looking at crime statistics, extreme weather, risk of natural disasters, terrorism threats, air quality, environmental hazards, life expectancy and job losses in 379 municipalities. Among areas with 500,000 or more residents, the San Jose-Sunnyvale-Santa Clara area in California topped the list, scoring well in terms of extreme weather and terrorist threats.

Aside from Honolulu, no other Hawai'i municipalities were listed in the top 20 rankings for small towns or medium-sized cities. The rankings were compiled by www.bestplaces.net for Farmers Insurance Group.
