Officials will assess Maui storm damage tomorrow

Advertiser Staff

Four teams will be on Maui tomorrow assessing storm-related damage, according to county civil defense officials.

Two joint preliminary damage assessment teams made up of federal, state and county personnel will be evaluating public facilities to determine eligibility for assistance with post-storm recovery measures.

Two other teams, including personnel from state and Maui civil defense agencies, will be making home visits to validate damage reports filed with the county. Staff making home visits will identify themselves with either a state or county ID badge.

Following the assessments, a determination will be made regarding the county's eligibility to apply for federal assistance.

Maui residents may report storm-related damage by completing an online form available at www.mauicounty.gov or by calling 808-270-7620 or 808-270-7285. The information is not considered a claim.

The reports will help determine whether the county has sustained enough storm-related losses to apply for various forms of federal assistance.
