Preps: Herring wins third Gatorade volleyball award

Advertiser Staff

Kamehameha senior Kanani Herring was named Gatorade Hawai'i Volleyball Player of the Year for the third time today.

Herring led the Warriors to their third straight state championship title this year.

She was recently named Interscholastic League of Honolulu Player of the Year for the second straight season and signed a letter of intent to play for the University of Hawai'i.

The reigning Advertiser Player of the Year, Herring recorded 351 kills and 223 digs for the Warriors this season. The 5-foot-10 outside hitter helped the Warriors finish third at the Durango Fall Classic in Las Vegas while earning all-tournament honors at the event that draws some of the top prep teams in the nation.

Herring spent the summer playing for the U.S. Girls' Youth National Team. Less than a week after she returned from that, she helped Kamehameha win the Ann Kang Invitational, becoming the first Hawai'i squad since 1997 to win the tournament.
