35 arrested on Big Island last week for DUI

Big Island police arrested 35 motorists for drunk driving from Dec. 4 through Dec. 10. Eight of the drivers were involved in a traffic crash and five were under the age of 21.So far this year, there have been 1,296 DUI arrests compared with 1,187 during the same period last year, an increase of 9 percent. However, major accidents on the Big Island have decreased 14 percent. There's been 2,001 major accidents on the Big Island so far this year compared with 2,321 during the same period last year.
