Officer attacked in Wahiawa after traffic stop

Advertiser Staff

A Waipahu man wanted on two warrants was arrested today for allegedly attacking a police officer following a traffic stop in Wahiawa.

William John Pratt, 34, was being held at the main police station cellblock tonight on two parole-revocation warrants of $10,000 and $5,000.

Pratt is also under investigation for first-degree assault on a law enforcement officer.

Today's alleged attack occurred at 12:25 p.m. after Pratt was stopped for a traffic violation at Kilani Avenue and Mango Street.

The male officer, 43, was not injured.

Pratt has 13 prior criminal convictions.

The incident is the second alleged attack on a police officer in as many days.

Attempted-murder charges are pending on a 40-year-old Punchbowl man who allegedly drove a stolen pickup truck into a police patrol car on Kahekili Highway yesterday.

After hitting the car, the suspect reversed and struck the car two more times, police said. The patrol officer escaped serious injury.
