Maui man killed in traffic accident

Advertiser Staff

A 24-year-old Maui man was killed this morning when his motorcycle struck a car that was turning left from Maul Lane Parkway onto Kuikelani Highway.

The 49-year-old driver of the car, a silver 2004 Dodge Intrepid, was taken to Maui Memorial Medical Center in critical condition.

Police said Ryan Cornell was on his white and blue 2006 Suzuki 1000 GSX when he broadsided the Intrepid, driven by a Kahului man, who was wearing his seatbelt.

The accident occurred at 6:43 a.m. It is the 21st traffic fatality on Maui this year compared to 19 last year at this time.

It has not been determined yet if speed, alcohol or drugs were factors, police said.
