Suspect arrested in $40,000 Aiea burglary case

Advertiser Staff

Charges are pending against a 26-year-old Village Park man arrested last night on suspicion of breaking into an 'Aiea home where $40,000 was reported stolen from a safe.

Police arrested the man in Waimalu at 10:05 p.m. after a relative of the burglary victim spotted him coming out of a black sport-utility vehicle carrying a "sling bag" that appeared to be stolen from the safe.

Neighbors of the burglary victim had provided police with the license number of a suspicious black SUV seen where the burglary occurred.

The stolen bag is a brand name that cannot be purchased locally, according to the 35-year-old male victim of the burglary.

The bag was identified by police as stolen in the burglary, and the suspect was in possession of $5,000 in cash when arrested at a video store at 98-019 Kamehameha Highway.

Police could not finde the SUV but said the license plate had been taken in a reported theft.

The man was arrested on suspicion of first-degree burglary and detention of stolen property.
