Car catches fire on westbound H-1

Advertiser Staff

A car caught fire in the westbound direction of the H-1 Freeway near the H-1/H-2 merge during rush-hour traffic today.

Smoke is filling the air just past the Waipahu exit. The fire was reported just after 5:30 p.m., and firefighters extinguished it just before 6. However, heavy smoke continues to pour over the area and has reduced visibility and backed up westbound traffic.

No driver was found, and the two right lanes of the H-1 are closed because of the hazard.
