Mostly fair weather expected for rest of the week

The trade winds will continue to strengthen through Thursday as a high pressure area builds far north of the state, according to the National Weather Service.

Showers will favor windward and mauka sections of the smaller islands, but the strong winds may blow showers into leeward areas as well, forecasters said.

An upper level low pressure area east of the Big Island might lead to isolated thunderstorms today over the eastern coastal waters and windward slopes.

Here's a closer look at what to expect during the rest of the work week:

Today: Isolated showers. Partly cloudy, with a high near 82. East wind around 14 mph. Chance of precipitation is 20%.

Tonight: Scattered showers. Partly cloudy, with a low around 70. East wind around 14 mph. Chance of precipitation is 30%.

Thursday: Isolated showers. Partly cloudy, with a high near 82. East wind around 18 mph, with gusts as high as 22 mph. Chance of precipitation is 20%.

Thursday Night: Scattered showers. Partly cloudy, with a low around 70. Breezy, with a east wind around 20 mph, with gusts as high as 23 mph. Chance of precipitation is 30%.

Friday: Isolated showers. Partly cloudy, with a high near 82. Breezy, with a east wind around 23 mph, with gusts as high as 28 mph. Chance of precipitation is 20%.

Friday Night: Scattered showers. Partly cloudy, with a low around 68. Breezy, with a east wind around 20 mph, with gusts as high as 23 mph. Chance of precipitation is 30%.
