Evan Dobelle, the former president of the University of Hawai'i system, has been offered the president post at Westfield State College, one of nine state colleges in Massachusetts.

The college's board of trustees voted unanimously yesterday to offer the post to Dobelle, according to a statement posted on the college's Web site. It said Dobelle's name will be submitted to the state's Board of Higher Education on Friday for final approval.

A search committee looked at 60 applications before choosing Dobelle, who will become the 19th president of Westfield State.

The college's Web site said the board voted to offer Dobelle the post after an executive session of less than 20 minutes.

Westfield was founded in 1839 by Horace Mann and is located in Westfield, Mass.
