Journey gets rocky as ferry rounds Diamond Head

Advertiser Staff

By 7:15 this morning, the Hawaii Superferry had been under way for about half an hour and was passing the "China Walls" area of Maunalua Bay off Hawai'i Kai, said Advertiser reporter Dan Nakaso, who is aboard the ferry.

The ferry departed from its berth in Honolulu Harbor for a three-hour trip to Maui, the first scheduled trip with passengers in nearly four months.

Once the ferry rounded Diamond Head, the huge aluminum catamaran began to rock noticeably, Nakaso said.

At the half-hour mark into the trip, the rocking continued but passengers seemed to be adjusting to the conditions with many of them standing up out of their seats chatting with each other, Nakaso said.
