Utility pole hits city bus on Koko Head Avenue

Advertiser Staff

A city bus on Koko Head Avenue was hit by a falling utility pole about 3:30 p.m. today. The bus was about 200 feet south of Wai'alae Avenue near Queen Lili'uokalani Elementary School.

The wooden utility pole snapped off at the base and landed near the front of the bus. Winds were gusting at the time.

Officials said no one was in the bus except the driver, who was not hurt.

About 1,800 Hawaiian Electric customers lost power in the area. The utility restored power to all but about 100 customers by 9:30 p.m. and was working through the night to restore power to the rest.
