Time change for reef awareness event today on Maui

Advertiser Staff

The International Year of the Reef Kickoff at the Maui Ocean Center in Wailuku will start at 1 p.m. today, not 2:30 p.m. as originally planned. The event will include a proclamation reading by Maui Mayor Charmaine Tavares, a traditional Hawaiian blessing, food and the unveiling of a new coral reef mural for the center.

Admission to the Maui Ocean Center is $23; $20 for seniors ages 65 and older; and $16 for children ages 3-12.

The International Year of the Reef, a global campaign to raise awareness about the world's coral reefs and promote sustainability, is slated for 2008.
