Santa to visit Academy's free Family Sunday

Advertiser Staff

The Bank of Hawaii's Free Family Sunday is back this weekend at the Honolulu Academy of Arts from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. It's a special holiday edition featuring Santa, who will be on hand with free goodie bags from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Then don't miss Elfie the Elf and her magic show. Beginning at 11:30 a.m., green-clad Elfie, an elf who stopped in Hawai'i last year and liked it so much she asked Santa if she could stay a year, will perform sleight-of-hand tricks with the help of keiki in the audience.

In the downstairs Museum Learning Center, there is also a whole psychedelic forest of Christmas trees created by Academy staff, art projects (kids get to make their own wreath ornaments and a mini tree) and a fake-snow demonstration. Two classic children's films, "White Mane" and "The Red Balloon" will be screened from 1 to 5 p.m.

Also appearing will be the Oahu Civic Orchestra from 2 to 3 p.m. and Star of the Sea's Little Stars, a dancing and singing troupe of pre-schoolers, will perform from 3:15 to 4 p.m.

Honolulu Academy of Arts: 900 S. Beretania St., between Victoria Street and Ward Avenue, 532-8700.
