Gold falls, yen higher in Friday trading

LONDON (AP) — The U.S. dollar was mostly higher against other major currencies in European trading late Friday. Gold fell.

The euro traded at $1.4434, down from $1.4624 late Thursday in New York. Later, in midday New York trading, the euro fetched $1.4432.

Other dollar rates in Europe, compared with late Thursday, included 113.28 Japanese yen, up from 112.20; 1.1545 Swiss francs, up from 1.1413; and 1.0196 Canadian dollars, down from 1.0207.

The British pound was quoted at $2.0211, down from $2.0387.

In midday New York trading, the dollar bought 113.39 yen and 1.1529 Swiss francs, while the pound was worth $2.0197.

Gold traded in London at $790.50 per troy ounce, down from $795.90 late Thursday. In Zurich, gold traded at $789.75 bid per troy ounce, down from $792.50.

Silver closed in London at $13.77, down from $14.05
