Kauai highway to close for bridge replacements

LIHU'E, Kaua'i — The state Department of Transportation will close Kuhio Highway (Route 560) in both directions for 24 hours next week to replace Wainiha Bridges Nos. 1 and 3.

The highway will be closed at Lumahai Beach Park from 8 a.m. Wednesday, through 8 a.m. Thursday.

Residents, businesses and guests with lodging west of the Wainiha bridges will be shuttled by van and boat to their homes, business or lodging locations.

A secured parking area will be provided on the east end of the road closure near Lumahai Beach for vehicles of those requiring shuttle services. A secured parking area and shuttle services will also be provided at the Ha'ena end of Wainiha Bridge No. 3.

The Kaua'i Police Department, Fire Department and Emergency Medical Services will continue to provide service across the bridges.
