LOS ANGELES The UCLA coaching search caravan was in Baltimore yesterday for a meeting with Baltimore Ravens offensive coordinator Rick Neuheisel.
On this side of the country, the Bruins met with their committed recruits with one big exception: running back Milton Knox, who was taking an official visit at Florida.
The recruits on campus, and their parents, were looking for answers as to when UCLA will have a new coach, but the decision appears to be at least a few days away.
Interim coach DeWayne Walker, who has interviewed for the position with Athletic Director Dan Guerrero, will have a message for the visiting recruits.
"Enjoy each other. Have fun. Talk about the vision that we talked about when we first started to recruit them," Walker said. "That was to get together a good recruiting class and do some of the things that Pete Carroll is doing (at USC). I respect Pete. I think he's done a great job. I think we can do those same things here. But it's going to take this recruiting class, and our last recruiting class, to get us to that level. I'll touch on that a little bit, to try to get these guys to remember the vision and some of the things that we talked about."
Safety E.J. Woods from Crespi of Encino and defensive end Datone Jones from Compton also were not on campus. Woods is expected today and Jones was completing some academic work.
