Church altering focus to study

'Ohana Metropolitan Community Church, a 2-year-old congregation that has a primary outreach to the lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and other communities, recently announced its transition from a worship group to a study group beginning with its meeting in February.
Its final worship service, a "Celebration of Ministry," will be held at 6 p.m. Jan. 13 at Unity Church of Hawaii, 3608 Diamond Head Circle. A reception will follow.

EYEWITNESS TO GENOCIDE BACK
Rwandan genocide survivor Immaculee Ilibagiza returns for several speaking engagements in January.
Chosen one of the most inspiring people of 2006 by Beliefnet, Ilibagiza hid in a bathroom with seven other women to escape the massacre but lived to tell the tale in her book, "Left to Tell," and a documentary that showed how she learned to forgive those who killed her family.

NATIVITY PAGEANT STARTS DEC. 21
The Salvation Army will present its 25th annual live nativity Dec. 21-24 at Wai'oli Gardens, 2950 Manoa Road.
The free event is a re-enactment of the first Christmas with costumes, live animals and an outdoor setting. Performances are from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m., with shows about 20 minutes long and repeated every half-hour. The staged program is performed using a taped narration of the first Christmas by Sidney Poitier and Brooke Shields.
