A 20-year-old Kealakekua woman died at Ka'u Hospital today after being injured in an early morning car crash on the Big Island.

Police identified the woman as Larnell K. Chillingsworth.

The death was the Big Island's 36th traffic fatality of the year as compared to 33 on the same day in 2006.

According to police, Chillingsworth was driving a 1991 Honda Accord on Wakea Avenue that went through a stop sign on Kamaoa Road and crashed into a rock embankment at 3:40 a.m.

She was pronounced dead at the hospital at 4:55 a.m.

Chillingsworth was alone in the car and using her seatbelt, police said.

Speed and alcohol may be contributing factors, according to police.
