Part of Kaimuki Avenue reopened after HECO line fixed

A section of Kaimuki Avenue between Fourth and Fifth avenues was reopened early this morning to vehicular traffic after it had been closed last night as a safety precaution because of a low-hanging utility line.
Police said reports were that the low-hanging line may have been caused by wind and rain conditions. The utility line was repaired at 5 a.m. today, a Hawaiian Electric Co. spokeswoman said.
The block was shut down and traffic diverted shortly after 11 p.m., police said.
HECO spokeswoman Sharon Higa said the line is one that connects from the primary line to a house. Only service to that Kaimuki Avenue home was affected, she said.
Separately, a utility pole fell down on Koko Head Avenue near Wai'alae Avenue Friday afternoon and hit a city bus.
The bus was about 200 feet south of Wai'alae Avenue near Queen Lili'uokalani Elementary School. The wooden utility pole snapped off at the base and landed near the front of the bus. Winds were gusting at the time.
Officials said no one was in the bus except the driver, who was not hurt. About 1,800 Hawaiian Electric customers lost power in the area.
