Tadd Fujikawa gains sponsor, will play Pebble Beach

Advertiser Staff

Moanalua High School junior Tadd Fujikawa, a month from playing in his Sony Open in Hawai'i sequel, has accepted a sponsor's exemption to play in the PGA Tour's AT&T Pebble Beach National Pro-Am, Feb. 7 to 10 in California.

Fujikawa, who turns 17 the week of this year's Sony Open (Jan. 10 to 13), became the youngest in 50 years to make a tour cut at this year's tournament in Waialae Country Club. He ultimately finished 20th and turned pro this summer in an effort to try and finance his golf future.

The news comes on the same day Fujikawa announced his first corporate sponsor. Aloha Petroleum, Ltd. has signed a one-year deal with the Fujikawa family, with options to renew. Part of the deal includes a change in Aloha's Save-A-$ Club charge card. Beginning next month, the company will donate 3 cents a gallon to Hawai'i junior golf for every gallon a cardholder purchases during a 12-month period.
