Bridges on Kauai to close for maintenance

Advertiser Staff

Kuhio Highway will be closed in both directions at the Lumahai Beach Park from 8 a.m. on Wednesday morning through 8 a.m. on Thursday morning, the state Department of Transportation announced.

The 24-hour closure is to facilitate the replacement of Wainiha Bridges Numbers One and Three.

Local residents, businesses and guests with lodging west of the Wainiha bridges will be shuttled by van and boat to their places of residence, business, or lodging locations during the road closure.

The DOT said a secured parking area will be provided on the east end of the road closure near Lumahai Beach for vehicles of those requiring shuttle services. A secured parking area and shuttle services will also be provided at the Haena end of Wainiha Bridge Number Three to transport residents and guests during the closure.

The Kauai Police Department, Fire Department and Emergency Medical Services will continue to provide service across the bridges during the closure.

Visitors are discouraged from trying to access the area during the scheduled roadwork.
