Assault suspect allegedly punched guard at OCCC

Advertiser Staff

A 34-year-old man who allegedly slugged an adult corrections officer Friday at O'ahu Community Correctional Center has a supervised release hearing scheduled today at Circuit Court on an unrelated assault case.

Derek Kaleo Worsham's supervised release hearing stems from a Sept. 12 incident in which he was charged with second-degree assault and first-degree terroristic threatening. The complainant is Worsham's girlfriend, 31, and alleged incident occurred in a tent.

Worsham was being held in lieu of $40,000 bail. On Oct. 24, a motion to be heard today was filed seeking supervised release.

On Friday, Worsham was arrested for second-degree assault in connection with facial injuries suffered by an ACO at OCCC. He has been released pending further investigation for Friday's incident, pending the outcome of today's hearing.

According to Hawai'i Criminal Justice Data Center records, Worsham has 20 prior convictions.

He is the younger brother of Curtis Worsham, who was indicted with four others last year for allegedly stealing $40,000 of lumber from the Pictures Plus storage lot. Curtis Worsham was arrested Nov. 10 after a nearly five-hour standoff with police in Waialua.
