Billabong Pipeline Masters finals set for this afternoon

T.J. Barron of O'ahu's North Shore upset Kaua'i's Andy Irons in the first heat of the fourth round today of the Billabong Pipeline Masters.

The fourth round is being run in small waves of 2 to 4 feet at the Banzai Pipeline.

The quarterfinals, semifinals and final will be held this afternoon.

Irons was the two-time defending champion of the Pipeline Masters, as well as the two-time defending champion of the Vans Triple Crown of Surfing.

The Billabong Pipeline Masters is the final event of the Triple Crown series.

Barron, who was invited to the contest on a sponsor's exemption, received a score of 7.07 with around three minutes left in the heat to eliminate Irons.
