Medical examiner: Alcohol a factor in Matsumoto crash

Advertiser Staff

"Acute alcohol intoxication," was a factor in a head-on collision caused when local playwright and children's book author Lisa Matsumoto drove the wrong way on the H-1 Freeway, the city office of the Medical Examiner said today.

Matsumoto died due to "blunt force injuries of the neck due to motor vehicle collision" and a contributing factor in her death was "acute alcohol intoxication," the Medical Examiner's office said.

Police are investigating how Matsumoto's vehicle ended up traveling against traffic on the H-1 westbound, east of the Kalihi Street overpass, at about 3:30 a.m. Friday morning.

A Waipahu woman whose vehicle was struck by Matsumoto's was hospitalized in serious condition with head and leg injuries, officials said.
