There are so many treats to tempt us to overindulge this time of year. Real Simple magazine offers these tips for eating healthy while at a holiday gathering:

  • Bring a healthy dish to ensure that there's something for you.

  • Start with a hot soup (preferably broth-based) as a first course, to fill up on.

  • Stand more than an arm's length away from munchies, so you don't snack without thinking.

  • Put down your food while you're chatting.

    SAVE THE PLANET

    HOLLYWOOD RALLYING FOR EARTH

The Hollywood Goes Green summit, which begins tomorrow at the Hollywood Roosevelt Hotel, comes at a pivotal time: Environmental activism is fractured into "light" and "dark" green: the light side advocating eco-chic consumerism as a means of gradually effecting change, and the dark seeking an immediate shift. Organizers say attendees — from TV, film and music — will seek ways to curb the industry's vast consumption of resources and make (or, more likely, save) some money in the process. FINAL WORD

"The beard. Ryan has so much confidence in that beard. Whenever he feels insecure, he strokes it. The beard says he's trying to be a man, and he thinks he's there — but he's not."
