Yen at 113.18 to dollar in New York trading

LONDON (AP) — The U.S. dollar mostly rose against other major currencies in European trading Tuesday. Gold rose.

The euro traded at $1.4399, up from $1.4398 late Monday in New York. Later, in midday New York trading, the euro fetched $1.4390.

Other dollar rates in Europe, compared with late Monday, included 113.17 Japanese yen, up from 113.02; 1.1523 Swiss francs, up from 1.1503; and 1.0100 Canadian dollars, up from 1.0064.

The British pound was quoted at $2.0166, down from $2.0213.

In midday trading in New York, the dollar bought 113.18 yen and 1.1527 Swiss francs, while the pound was worth $2.0136.

Gold traded in London at $799.70, up from $794.05 per troy ounce late Monday. In Zurich, gold traded at $799.50 bid per troy ounce, up from $791.90.

Silver traded in London at $13.92, up from $13.78.
