Pedestrian critical after accident in Kaneohe

Advertiser Staff

A 44-year-old man is in critical condition at The Queen's Medical Center after being struck by a vehicle in Kane'ohe last night.

Police said the accident occurred at 10:40 p.m. when the man stepped onto Kamehameha Highway near the Papa John's Pizza restaurant and was struck by a silver 2006 Nissan Sentra four-door sedan driven by a 44-year-old woman from Kailua.

There was no crosswalk where the man attempted to cross, police said, and the driver of the sedan had no time react as he stepped in front of her vehicle. He suffered head, leg and internal injuries.

Speed, alcohol and drugs were not factors in the accident for the woman, police said, but it is unknown yet if drugs or alcohol were in the pedestrian's system.

The accident was at 45-1118 Kamehameha Highway. The female driver was wearing her seatbelt and was uninjured.
