Nanakuli woman killed in West Oahu crash

Advertiser Staff

A 22-year-old Nanakuli woman killed today in an early morning pickup truck crash on the H-1 Freeway near the 'Ewa offramp was identified by the Honolulu Medical Examiner's office as Roelle Hoohuli.

Police vehicular homicide investigator Sgt. John Agno said the 3:24 a.m. crash occurred on the eastbound side of the freeway, 614 feet west of the 'Ewa offramp, and involved a 2006 Frontier pickup.

Agno said alcohol may be a contributing factor for O'ahu's 65th traffic fatality of the year and ninth death since Nov. 21. Today's driver was not wearing a seatbelt, Agno said.

Agno said the pickup truck went off the right shoulder of the freeway, down an embankment and landed 186 feet north of the freeway edge to Aloun Farms.

The driver was pronounced dead at the scene at 3:54 a.m., according to Honolulu Emergency Services spokesman Bryan Cheplic.

There were 87 traffic deaths on O'ahu on this date in 2006.
