DUI arrests up 9 percent on Big Island

Thirty motorists were arrested on the Big Island last week for drunk driving, raising this year's DUI arrest total to 1,326 — an increase of 9 percent over the same time span last year on the Big Island.Eight of the drivers arrested last week were involved in traffic accidents.
There have been 2,054 major accidents on the Big Island so far this year compared with 2,363 during the same period last year, a decrease of 13 percent.
