NBA: Wizards add depth by signing guard Wilks

Associated Press

WASHINGTON — The Washington Wizards signed well-traveled guard Mike Wilks ahead of their game today against the Chicago Bulls.

Wilks has played for seven other NBA teams, most recently averaging 3 points and 15.3 minutes in eight games with the Denver Nuggets this season. He was waived by Denver last month.

Since entering the league with the Atlanta Hawks during the 2002-03 season, the 5-foot-10 Wilks has appeared in 222 games, averaging 2.5 points and 1.2 assists.

His signing gives the Wizards 10 healthy players, and a guard to help fill in while starting point guard Gilbert Arenas (left knee surgery) and his primary backup, Antonio Daniels (sprained right knee), are sidelined.

Forward-center Oleksiy Pecherov is out because of a broken right ankle, and center Etan Thomas is sidelined indefinitely after having heart surgery.
