Advertiser Staff

Maui sustained $1.2 million in storm damages from Dec. 3-5, according to assessments made last week by a team of county, state Civil Defense and FEMA personnel.

Based on the findings, the state has filed for assistance to the Small Business Administration on behalf of Maui county.

The baseline criterion to file an application for SBA assistance is 25 homes or businesses sustaining damages classified as major or destroyed, Maui officials said today in a news release. Additionally, these must have 40 percent uninsured loss.

Recent field assessments validated Maui met the baseline to request SBA assistance with an initial assessment of 29 homes or businesses classified as major or destroyed, and another 65 classified as sustaining minor damage. The findings were confirmed by SBA on Saturday.
