Last-second layup lifts Ohio past St. John's, 71-69

Leon Williams' layup with 0.2 seconds remaining gave Ohio a 71-69 victory over St. John's in the opening game of the Rainbow Classic today.

Williams had a double-double for Ohio (7-3), scoring 24 points and grabbing 10 rebounds.

Bubba Walther added 15 points and Jerome Tillman 11 for the Bobcats.

D.J. Kennedy led the St. John's (4-3) with 17 points and Eugene Lawrence added 16.

After two free throws put Ohio up 69-66, Lawrence nailed a 3-pointer from the right wing to tie the game at 69 with 1.6 seconds remaining.

Walther then inbounded the ball the length of the court to Williams for the game-winning layup.

Ohio used a 12-2 run to lead by as much as nine, 54-45, with 7:01 remaining.

But the Red Storm responded with an 11-4 spurt of their own to pull to within two, 58-56, with 2:06 to go.
