McDonald's latest menu item addition is the McSkillet Burrito (about $3), a flour tortilla stuffed with scrambled eggs, sausage, skillet potatoes, cheeses, bell peppers, onions and salsa. This hefty and somewhat spicy breakfast burrito went over extremely well with a number of Advertiser tasters, although even the guys said they had trouble eating a whole one. In addition, many McDonald's stores are updating decor and adding McCafe, which serve espresso drinks and teas, smoothies, baked goods and snacks.

Elsewhere in fast food: Jack in the Box is introducing a Sirloin Steak Melt, which features slices of marinated sirloin steak and a trio of American, cheddar, and Swiss-style cheese topped with grilled onions and peppercorn mayo on grilled sourdough bread (about $4).

GIFT IDEAS

FOR TEA LOVERS

At The Pacific Place, tea expert Lynette Jee has designed a number of gifts for the tea enthusiast, from 3/4-ounce samplers and 1-ounce tins of tea (green, herbal, oolong, black or white types) for $8.50 to $20 to a matcha gift set. The set allows the recipient to duplicate the Tea Garden Cafe's most popular beverage, Green Tea Matcha Latte, with a packet of tea, a battery-operated frother, strainer, measure and the recipe, for $22. The Tea Garden Cafe is on the third floor of Ala Moana Center, overlooking Centerstage.
