UH med students to host party for homeless kids

Advertiser Staff

The University of Hawai'i medical student volunteers who regularly visit O'ahu's homeless shelters will sponsor a party from 6 to 8 p.m. Saturday for the children at NEXT STEP in Kaka'ako.

One third of the transitional shelter's residents are children. Dr. Jill Omori of the John A. Burns School of Medicine recognizes the holidays are especially difficult for the children and their families. She coordinates the student-run H.O.M.E (Homeless Outreach and Medical Education) Project. With weekly visits, the students help monitor the health of residents at the shelter, which is located near the Medical School's Kaka'ako Campus.

Party events will include cookie decorations, an ice cream sundae bar and placement of holiday decorations at the shelter.
