Academy of Arts' Starlight Ball slated for Jan. 12

Advertiser Staff

The Honolulu Academy of Arts' Starlight Ball, set from 7 to 11 p.m. Jan. 12 will be a soiree with European pleasures — Italian circus meeting decadent Berlin cabaret in the Island environs.

With a subtle seduction of ARTafterDARK's Circo di Notti. the event — sponsored by Prada — will assemble roaming artists in a Fellini-esque atmosphere, with music and nourishment to appease all senses.

Emcee See (Ong King Arts Center partner Cristian Ellauri) will oversee the offerings of performer Candy Bar, who will be selling sensual chocolates (with some wrappers shielding Prada discounts) amid an environment of roaming artists, some swathed in animal prints and velvet. The academy's courtyards will be bustling with variety — performances by aerialists and acrobats of Samadhi, The Amazing TJ (a juggler), unicyclist Ari the Wise and bandleader Kevin Hughs. For this year's Starlight Ball, generously sponsored by Prada, The Honolulu Academy of Arts' ARTafterDARK team gathered a group of trend-setting volunteers to create an exclusive soiree. Think: Italian circus meets decadent Berlin cabaret.

Foodies will revel in the culinary treasures from such restaurants as Cassis by Chef Mavro, 12th Avenue Grill and Michel's, with an accent on Italian-accented fare.

Circo Di Notte also boasts an auction with Prada products, with other items donated by Honolulu artists Dana Forsberg, Sergio Goes and Richard Earl Leong Yu Ralya.

Proceeds support the Academy's Art To Go Program, a non-profit outreach effort targeting Hawaii's at-risk youth.

Tickets: $85.
