Gold falls, yen declines against dollar in trading

LONDON (AP) — The U.S. dollar was mixed against other major currencies in European trading Thursday. Gold fell.

The euro traded at $1.4339, down from $1.4381 late Wednesday in New York. Later, in midday trading in New York, the euro fetched $1.4338.

Other dollar rates in Europe, compared with late Wednesday, included 112.97 Japanese yen, down from 113.35; 1.1569 Swiss francs, up from 1.1553; and 0.9993 Canadian dollars, down from 1.0035.

The British pound was quoted at $1.9830, down from $1.9966.

In midday New York trading, the dollar bought 112.95 yen and 1.1562 Swiss francs, while the pound was worth $1.9814.

Gold traded in London at $796.00 per troy ounce, down from $802.80 late Wednesday. In Zurich, gold traded at $794.40 bid per troy ounce, down from $801.75.

Silver opened in London at $14.04, down from $14.11.
