UH loses to Georgia, finishes last in Rainbow Classic

Sundiata Gaines scored 15 points and Georgia held off a Hawai'i rally in the second half to earn a 67-59 victory in the seventh-place game of the Rainbow Classic at the Stan Sheriff Center today.

Georgia is 7-4. Hawai'i is 3-7. It is the first time the Rainbow Warriors finished last in the Rainbow Classic since 1995.

Matt Gibson, who entered the game in the second half, led UH with 16 points.

Poor shooting and turnovers by the Rainbow Warriors helped Georgia take a 37-19 halftime lead.

Hawai'i shot 29 percent (6 of 21) and had 14 turnovers, which the Bulldogs turned into 19 points.

The Rainbows rallied to close Georgia's lead to five (60-55) with 46 seconds to go on a 3-pointer by Bobby Nash. Billy Humphrey scored on a layup to give Georgia a 62-55 lead with 35 seconds to go.

Gibson was fouled on the ensuing possession and made 1 of 2 free throws to close it to 62-56 with 35 seconds to go.

Two free throws by Terrance Woodbury gave Georgia a 64-56 lead with 34 seconds to go.

Gibson hit a 3-pointer to close it to 64-59 with 29 seconds to go.

Woodbury was fouled with 15 seconds and made two free throws to put the game out of reach.
