Kauai recycling center to reopen today in Lihue

Advertiser Staff

LIHU'E – County officials have announced that the Kaua'i Resource Center is scheduled to reopen today. The center is located at 3460 Ahukini Road next to the Lihu'e transfer station, approximately 1/2 mile from the airport.

Services offered at the center include HI-5 bottle redemption and residential and commercial recycling drop-off of aluminum cans, cardboard, glass, mixed paper, newspaper and plastic.

The center is open from 7:30 a.m. to 4:15 p.m. except Wednesdays and Sundays, and is closed for lunch from 11 to 11:45 a.m.

Customers are advised that the traffic pattern for the facility is the reverse of what it was two years ago. Entry to KRC is now through the north side gate via the Lihu'e transfer station, and exit is via KRC's main gate through the parking lot.

The new operator of KRC, Garden Isle Disposal Inc., recently closed its Niumalu facility to the public and is using it for storage and processing.

For more information, please call the County Recycling Office at 808-241-5512.
