NFL: 49ers' Hill aims to prove his worth at quarterback

"I know that doing it one week is not enough," said Hill, who threw for one score and ran for another in helping the 49ers past Cincinnati, 20-13, last Saturday. "We have a lot to prove. I have a lot to prove and there's no better way than to go out and do it against a great defense."
Tampa Bay (9-5), which clinched the NFC South title last week, poses a more formidable challenge Sunday than the Bengals did. The Buccaneers enter with the league's No.3 defense, 25 spots ahead of the defense that the 49ers' last-ranked offense faced last Saturday.
"None of us are resting on what we did last week," Hill said. "We have to play much better this week against a very good defense."
Hill added that as happy as he was to beat the Bengals, he saw a lot of things he could have done better.
"I hope, for crying out loud, that's not my best," Hill said. "There's plenty of things I can improve upon."
The 49ers enter their final home game of the regular season with a dubious distinction a string of 28 consecutive games without a 100-yard receiver.
They share the NFL's longest active streak with the Minnesota Vikings, according to Stats LLC.
Frank Gore, with 11 catches for 98 yards at Arizona a month ago, came closest to ending the dry spell. Wide receiver Darrell Jackson also nearly turned the trick in last week's game against the Bengals with a season-high eight catches for 86 yards.
"Getting over 100 is definitely a goal," Jackson said. "We'll break that, if not this year then next year. Hopefully, we'll get enough opportunities to where one of us could go over 100, and maybe even get close to 200."
Antonio Bryant was the last 49er to surpass 100 yards receiving when he had four receptions for 131 yards and a touchdown in a Sept.17, 2006 victory over the St. Louis Rams.
