Tulane tops St. John's, finishes fifth in Rainbow Classic

Kevin Sims and Matt Wheaton scored 21 points each to lead Tulane to a fifth place finish in the Rainbow Classic with a 79-71 win over St. John's today.

Matt Wheaton added 12 for the Green Wave (8-4).

Anthony Mason Jr. led the Red Storm (5-4) with 18 points and Sean Evans added 11.

Down by six midway through the second half, Tulane went on a 20-4 run to take control of the game, 66-56, with 2:22 remaining. St. John's went nearly eight minutes without a field goal during the stretch.

Tulane made 13-of-16 free throws in the final two minutes to seal the victory.

The Green Wave shot 27-of-34 from the line for the game, including 11-of-15 for Sims.

St. John's led 38-32 at the half.
