Weather: Windy today with more wind on the way

A high pressure area north of the islands will keep the trade winds blowing at a moderate pace today, the National Weather Service says.

The winds are expected to increase a bit tonight and remain on the breezy side through next week as as the high pressure area builds, forecasters said.

What showers there are will affect mainly windward and mauka sections of all islands.

Here's how the next few days are shaping up:

Today: Isolated showers. Partly cloudy, with a high near 81. East wind around 13 mph. Chance of precipitation is 20 percent.

Tonight: Scattered showers. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 70. East wind around 14 mph, with gusts as high as 18 mph. Chance of precipitation is 30 percent. New rainfall amounts between a 10th and quarter of an inch possible.

Sunday: Scattered showers, mainly after noon. Partly cloudy, with a high near 82. East wind around 17 mph, with gusts as high as 23 mph. Chance of precipitation is 30 percent. New rainfall amounts of less than a 10th of an inch possible.

Sunday night: Scattered showers. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 71. East wind around 16 mph, with gusts as high as 22 mph. Chance of precipitation is 30%. New rainfall amounts between a 10th and quarter of an inch possible.

Monday: Isolated showers. Partly cloudy, with a high near 82. East wind around 17 mph, with gusts as high as 23 mph. Chance of precipitation is 20 percent.

Monday night: Scattered showers, mainly before midnight. Partly cloudy, with a low around 70. East wind around 17 mph, with gusts as high as 23 mph. Chance of precipitation is 30 percent. New rainfall amounts of less than a 10th of an inch possible.
