A motorcyclist critically injured in a collision on Wilikina Drive in Wahiawa on April 27 died Dec. 15 at a care home, according to police who were recently notified of the 42-year-old Hale'iwa man's death by the Honolulu medical examiner's office.

The ME today declined to release a name until his identity is confirmed.

The collision between the motorcycle and Honda sedan occurred at 7:26 p.m. on Wilikina Drive, 117 feet south of Kaukonahua Road.

According to police, the motorcycle and car were both headed north and the motorcyclist was overtaking vehicles on the median to left of the car. The motorcyclist was in the process of overtaking the Honda when the car swerved to the left to avoid hitting something in its path.

The motorist, a 23-year-old Waialua man, was not injured, police said.

The motorcyclist was taken to The Queen's Medical Center and later transferred to an unnamed care home where he died.

Honolulu police have classified the death the island's 66th traffic fatality of the year.

Fifteen people have died in 14 motorcycle-related accidents on O'ahu this year as compared to nine in 2006, 12 in 2005, and 10 each in 2004 and 2003.
