Who's getting the money

 •  Hawaii nonprofit grant funding a mystery
 •  Hawaii House grants job a lucrative post
 •  Hawaii nonprofit funding unusual

Nearly 275 nonprofit organizations that received grant approvals from the Legislature since 2003 are in this searchable database. Many groups got money in multiple years, and more than a dozen received grant approvals in each of the five legislative sessions since 2003. Some nonprofits got multiple grants in a single session. (In those cases, the combined total is reflected in the database for that session). While the governor has final say on whether the funding is released, depending on the state's fiscal condition, the vast majority of grants approved in the 2003 through 2006 sessions were released in full. Unless the administration decides to withhold funding, it has until the end of the current fiscal year to release operating grants approved in the 2007 session.
