Advertiser Staff

A motorcyclist who was critically injured in April in a collision on Wilikina Drive in Wahiawa died Dec. 15 at a care home, police said.

Honolulu police were recently notified of the 42-year-old Hale'iwa man's death by the Honolulu medical examiner's office.

The medical examiner declined to release a name until the man's identity is confirmed.

The April 27 collision between the motorcycle and a Honda sedan occurred at 7:26 p.m. on Wilikina Drive, 117 feet south of Kaukonahua Road.

According to police, the motorcycle and car were both headed north and the motorcyclist was overtaking vehicles on the median to the left of the car. The motorcyclist was overtaking the Honda when the car swerved to the left to avoid hitting something in its path.

The motorist, a 23-year-old Waialua man, was not injured, police said.

The motorcyclist was taken to The Queen's Medical Center and then transferred to an unidentified care home, where he died.

Honolulu police have classified the death the island's 66th traffic fatality of the year.

Fifteen people have died in 14 motorcycle-related accidents on O'ahu this year as compared to nine in 2006, 12 in 2005, and 10 each in 2004 and 2003.
