Small boat harbors on the Big Island and O'ahu will get $4.45 million worth of improvements by the end of 2009.Design is almost completed and construction at the harbors will begin in July, according to a news release from Gov. Linda Lingle's office.
Loading docks and connecting walkways will be replaced at Kawaihae Small Boat Harbor between June 2008 and March 2009, the release said.
However, most of the funds -- $4.05 million -- will be spent at Ke'ehi Small Boat Harbor, where more than a quarter of the 362 slips have been closed due to safety concerns. The project calls for replacing piers 100 and 200, it said.
