Fireworks go on sale today

Advertiser Staff

Fireworks will be on sale at licensed retail sites starting today and can be purchased until midnight Dec. 31.

Fireworks play is restricted from 9 p.m. Dec. 31 to 1 a.m. Jan. 1.

Permits, required for the purchase of consumer fireworks or firecrackers, are available at any satellite city hall on O'ahu during normal business hours, but not at fire stations. Permits cost $25 each and multiple permits may be purchased.

Licensed retailers are prohibited from selling more than 5,000 individual firecrackers per permit. Firework vendors this year are not allowed to sell permits.

The use of aerial fireworks is prohibited unless a special permit has been issued by Fire Chief Kenneth Silva.

Novelty fireworks, such as sparklers, snakes and fountains that emit effects no higher than 12 feet off the ground do not require permits.

Four public fireworks displays are scheduled on O'ahu on Dec. 31: Fronting 4599 Kahala Ave., 9:15 p.m.; fronting the Halekulani Hotel, midnight; Aloha Tower Marketplace, midnight, and Ihilani Resort & Spa, midnight.
