HOMEGROWN REPORT
Good things come in threes for Pacific hoops

By Kalani Takase

A triumvirate of basketball players is bringing some local flavor to Pacific University in Forest Grove, Ore.

Guards Holly Saito, Trixy Miller and Megan Kamehiro have just one start among them this season, but their value, according to Boxers' coach Sharon Rissmiller, can't be measured in statistics.

"They're all such great people," said the first-year coach. "You love to have these kind of kids in your program."

Saito, a 5-foot-5 sophomore, is a 2005 graduate of St. Andrew's Priory from Honolulu. She is averaging 3.2 points and 1.2 rebounds in over 14 minutes per game. She has appeared in six of Pacific's eight games this season.

"Holly is a true team player. She has incredibly quick hands as a defender," Rissmiller said on the Boxers' Web site. "She can attack the basket well offensively and has a very nice outside shot."

Miller, a 5-foot-6 junior, is a 2004 Kamehameha graduate from Hilo. She transferred from Everett (Wash.) Community College. She is averaging 2.9 points and 1.8 rebounds in just under 10 minutes per game.

"Trixy has a great ability to create her own shot," said Rissmiller. "She shoots the ball well from the outside as well as drive to the basket, take a hit and still finish the play."

Kamehiro, a 5-foot-5 freshman and 2007 Kalani graduate, has played in two games and is averaging 2.0 points and 1.0 rebounds per game.

"Megan has transitioned nicely to the collegiate level," said Rissmiller. "She has a great understanding for the game, good court awareness and one of the nicest outside shots."
