Kane'ohe's Betty Okamoto is one of thousands of Hawai'i residents who will be Sugar Bowl-bound.

Now, she'll also be Las Vegas-bound.

Okamoto, who turned 71 Sunday, won this past week's Pigskin Picks contest, whose weekly prize is a trip for two to Las Vegas and $500.

When asked which she'd prefer — going to see Hawai'i play Georgia in the Sugar Bowl or receiving a free trip and cash — the retired school teacher diplomatically said, it's a "dead heat. They're both wonderful."

Okamoto was one of many who correctly picked the winners of all 12 NFL games. Her ballot was picked randomly from among all the perfect ballots.

"I pick all the favorites, then I deviate (with other ballots)," said Okamoto, who said she submitted about 17 entries.

In the end, though, she said winning is "just lucky, just pure luck ... I've been losing so much all previous weeks."

She said she goes to Las Vegas sometimes up to three times a year to satisfy her urge to gamble. When she goes to New Orleans for the Sugar Bowl with her husband and son who lives in San Diego, they'll all be looking for a gaming place.

"We like to gamble. We all love it," she said.

A UH football season-ticket holder for 30 years, Okamoto said this football season "was just unbelievable. It was just a wonderful season."
