Hawaii stock index falls, led by bank shares

Advertiser Staff

The Bloomberg-Honolulu Advertiser Hawai'i Index fell for the first time in seven trading sessions as broader markets reacted to the assassination of Benazir Bhutto and the Commerce Department's durable goods orders report.

The 11-member stock index declined 1.26 points to 96.16, as one issue rose, eight declined and two remained unchanged.

The decliners were led by bank stocks, with Bank of Hawaii falling $1.23, or 2.4 percent, to $50.59.

Central Pacific Financial was off $1.17, or 5.9 percent, to $18.65

The lone gainer was Barnwell Industries, which rose 91 cents to $12.97.
